P!NK's Timeline
Pink was born Alecia Moore on September 8, 1979 and grew up surrounded
by music, although it wasn't the dance-edged music she eventually
would embrace. Early into her teens, Pink was spreading her love
of dance music into the clubs of Philadelphia. By age 13, Pink was
joining a friend's rap group, 'Schools Of Thought' providing background
vocals. Pink eventually made it into the front of the microphone
and began writing her own music. Her ambition led to a MCA Records
request to join a group named 'Basic Instinct' which didn't last
long but led to another female trio, 'Choice.' The group didn't
stay together long either, but had Pink ready for a solo career
and a place at LaFace Records.
Year 2000
# 7 Singles Artist of the Year
February: The single "There U Go" was certified
gold.
March: Pink hit the Top 40 with "There U Go."
April: Pink released her debut LP, Can't Take Me Home.
May: Can't Take Me Home was certified gold.
June: Pink hit the Top 10 with with "There U Go."
August: Pink hit the Top 40 with her 2nd hit "Most Girls."
September: Can't Take Me Home was certified platinum.
Pink was nominated for a MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist
("There U Go").
Pink was nominated for a Billboard Music Video Award for Best Pop
New Artist Clip of the Year ("There U Go").
Pink said of her next LP: "I'm writing now... Annie Lennox
meets Method Man." The LP is planned for a summer release after
Pink enters the recording studio early next year.
November: "Most Girls" topped the Billboard Maxi-Singles
Sales chart for 4 weeks.
December: Can't Take Me Home was certified 2x platinum.
Year 2001
# 9 Singles Artist of the Year
January: Pink hit the Top 40 with "You Make Me Sick."
Pink was nominated for an American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B
New Artist and performed "Most Girls" at the ceremony.
Pink hit the Top 10 with "You Make Me Sick" by the end
of the month.
April: Pink won a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite
Female - New Artist.
Pink hit the Top 40 (with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, & Mya)
with the remake of "Lady Marmalade" from the film Moulin
Rouge.
Pink was nominated for a Kids' Choice Award for Favorite Female
Singer.
May: Pink hit the Top 10 and then #1 with "Lady Marmalade"
where it sat for 9 weeks.
June: Pink hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Lady
Marmalade" - and the track topped the UK charts by month's
end.
August: Pink won a Teen Choice Award for Choice Song of the
Summer ("Lady Marmalade").
September: Pink's collaborative video for "Lady Marmalade"
won 2 MTV Video Music Awards including Video of the Year and Best
Video from a Film, and was also nominated for Best Dance Video,
Best Pop Video, Best Choreography (Tina Landon), and Best Art Direction
(Bernadette Dus).
October: Pink hit the Top 40 with "Get The Party Started."
November: Pink hit the Top 10 with "Get The Party Started."
Pink will release her next LP - Misundaztood. Pink said of the LP's
title: "I say the wrong things. I tell the truth, which tends
to get me in trouble and I'm a very eclectic person, so I feel that's
misunderstood as well." Pink described Misundaztood as "...more
versatile, it's a lost less contrived, it's a lot more me."
Pink was nominated for a MTV Europe Music Award for Best Song ("Lady
Marmalade").
December: Misundaztood was certified platinum.
Pink (along with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, & Mya) topped
The ARC Weekly Top 40 Year-End Top 100 for 2001 with "Lady
Marmalade."
Pink won 2 My VH1 Awards for Favorite Video and Is It Hot In Her
Or Is It Just My Video for "Lady Marmalade."
Year 2002
January: Pink hit #1 with "Get The Party Started."
The video for "Get The Party Started" topped the Canadian
video charts.
"Get The Party Started" topped the Billboard Hot Dance
Music / Club Play chart.
Misundaztood was certified 2x platinum.
February: Pink won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration
with Vocals for ("Lady Marmalade" with Christina Aguilera,
Lil' Kim, & Mya which they performed at the ceremony.
